That it's hard to trust anyone, and that you should always get involved in
things yourself – if you want them to be as you wish they should be.
What kinds of non-music skills do musicians need?
Above all: patience.

A Roland Juno 60 keyboard, because I keep getting astounded by how many great
sounds you can pull out of it.
