I think the song of ours I dig the most at the moment is "True Love Waits." The inspiration came from a few girls I knew in high school who went to a couple of different Catholic schools in the area. The song has a lot to do with the sexual clash between what the nuns and priests were saying and the adolescent impulses you feel and act on at that age. The girl in the story's world is shaken when the boy of her first serious relationship loses interest in her and moves on, while she is left to cope with the mixed feelings that come after losing her virginity. I try to mix elements of sexuality and religion in songs when it is appropriate, and I'm very happy with how things worked out for this song.
What have you learned about the music business?
One thing I've learned is to avoid corporate gimmicks. It's tricky with how the music industry is now, though. Major corporations are involved with pretty much all the big music festivals and tours, and it's commonplace now to hear indie music on commercials and tv shows.
