What inspired you to write your favorite song?
My favorite song is the eponymous title track to our new record; it's called "Tatterdemalion." It took me literally ten minutes and metaphorically 20 years to write. The drums are like monsters at play, and there's no song in our canon like it. For me, it achieves what I try to do with every record: meld the poetic and the powerful. I wrote it because I was feeling like an emotional tatterdemalion (ragamuffin), so I turned turmoil into artistic triumph. It's as dear to me as anything off The White Album, Loveless, or Magical Mystery Tour...well, not Magical Mystery Tour...hahahahahaha.
