What inspired you to write this song?
Our former bandmate, Adam, had this part (which turned out to be the chorus) hanging around waiting for some love for a while, and then I wrote a melody and some words. The lyrics are written as sort of a farewell to a young man I had spent a bit of time with. We both knew that it wasn't a forever sort of thing, but he was a very, very sweet person and I had a high opinion of him. The way I meant those lyrics when it was written, along with that chorus melody, Sarah's heart-seeping guitar solo at the end, and the part where Nate's drums come in toward the beginning…it's just…my favorite. It's the only time I've ever used someone's name in a song, and I don't imagine I'll ever do it again. I always say that if I do nothing else worthwhile in life, at least I got to play that song.
