True tales of gigs gone strange...

Our weirdest gig ever was in Phoenix at a place called the Emerald Lounge, which they have since turned into a Starbucks. Honestly, it should have been a pretty normal show except everyone started getting drunk, and it quickly started turning into "one of those nights."

The place was tiny and we had a rather large setup, so our drummer and our old texturizer Sam were on the stage while the rest of us were on the floor. Before the show even began, our old bass player Johnny tried to start a fight with the owner of the bar. Then during the first part of the show Sam fell onto the drums, bringing most of his gear and the drum set to the floor. For lack of time to set up again, we kept playing.

Soon after that, the power went out on Christian's pianos, so he turned to his guitar to finish the set. Christian and I both broke a string on the next song, and because we only had one other guitar, I ended up finishing the set with it.

All Christian had to play for the last few songs was an effects processor and a plastic mic he’d bought from the dollar store. He was pretty pissed about the whole thing, so he basically started yelling into the mic and flipping everyone off for the rest of the show, while Sam and Aurelio were bashing on cymbals.

At the very end it was so chaotic and crazy that I started mooning the crowd — and when we hit the last note of the last song, I turned to tell everyone “thank you for coming out,” but forgot to pull my shorts back up. After the show, we found to our surprise that everyone loved it (of course everyone in the audience was trashed too).
