good, bad & weird

True tales of gigs gone strange...

IKO

Well, our first-ever gig was a weird one. We played in the city of Manchester. We'd hired a proper people-carrier/van thing which was a little too bling for my liking. We found ourselves opening the door every five minutes, pretending to be Mr. T. When we arrived, the bar was full of hooligans looking for a fight. We were sandwiched between a whole load of garage bands, so our cello and acoustic guitar kinda stuck out like a sore thumb.

People seemed to dig it though. The place flooded with people. On the way home, we encountered road rage on the motorway – it seemed like the van was a magnet for psychopaths. We actually felt like the A-team – especially when we were about a foot away from being rammed off the road. But we survived, and arrived back home as the sun was coming up, just in time to shower, put on shirt and tie, and go to work.
