True tales of gigs gone strange...

Loquat

Our weirdest show was probably a gig we played at the Edinburgh Castle in San Francisco a few years back. As we were getting ready to walk on stage, I accidentally knocked over a pint glass, and it broke when it hit the floor. I went to pick up the broken glass and stabbed myself in the tip of the finger and cut a bunch of blood vessels. I cupped my hands together and ran to the bathroom with blood literally overflowing in my hands. Really gross stuff. For some reason, the sink in the bathroom at the Edinburgh Castle is in the toilet stall. When I got to the bathroom, I kicked open the stall and scared the hell out of some poor guy from India in a business suit who was using it at the time. He freaked out and started shouting at me and I kept trying to reassure him that everything was OK (whilst my finger literally spurted blood all over the stall). The man pulled up his pants and ran out of the bathroom in horror as fast as he could. The other guy in the bathroom, a grizzled-looking Vietnam veteran I had been chatting with before the show, watched the whole episode very calmly – it was weird. I washed myself up and applied a tourniquet fashioned from a paper towel and the grizzled vet said to me, "What you need to do is get high" and offered me some cocaine from a bag he pulled out of his pocket (I politely declined). I went up and played the show still bleeding and feeling terrible about scaring that poor guy in the bathroom.
