My weirdest gig, or I should say most surreal: My girlfriend had just broken up with me, no lie, on my birthday — and the next night we had a gig here in Austin at Stubb's BBQ for a suicide prevention benefit. I'll tell you this: It was one of the most difficult, most ironic, most disturbing, most tumultuous, most internally conflicted and tormenting shows I've ever had to play. As if I needed a reminder that life was so hard. If there is a God, what a sick sense of humor that one has.
