So long, and thanks for all the fish

I'm sorry to let you know that rightround is officially closing its doors. This will most likely be the last site update.

It's been a great year – hell, it's hard to believe it's been a whole year since we launched – with our first feature story on Say Hi To Your Mom (who have since moved from Brooklyn to Seattle, had another line-up change, and are sounding better than ever). We gained momentum quickly, and added bloggers from Montreal, Sydney, Toyko, and Austin. Each blogger added a fresh voice, good stories, and wisdom about how the music industry works. Ken M. in Tokyo told us about booking super-cute J-pop bands in Japan, Andrew Rose in Montreal told us about working for Pop Montreal and bands from Montreal, Annette Loudon told us how to find all the amazing underground spots, bands, and festivals in Sydney, Dana Jae patiently went over how to choose microphones, and Kim Roche told us funny stories about her epiphanies regarding life and music.

We wrote lots of articles to help our musician friends and readers out, including stories on how to build the perfect pedalboard and what to do when the club sound sucks, advice columns on band problems, and business advice regarding those tricky business situations and confusing legal terms bands have to deal with.

We also wrote in-depth scene profiles on some of our favorite cities, including San Francisco (where rightround is/was based), Portland, New York, Montreal, Austin, and Sydney. Wow, were those articles hard to write (and harder to edit!) Of course, it was all worth it. Every minute.

We had a really great time, interviewing bands, putting together featured artist articles and the often-hilarious Good, Bad, and Weird stories. Who will ever forget OK Go's classic story about playing the launch party for a Dodge pickup truck before their first record even came out, or Irving's almost unbelievably strange night in Toronto a few years ago? I sure won't.

But it's true. Rightround has to say goodnight, and even though we've all found new and exciting jobs, we're still looking back and feeling sad to leave it.

So, I'm going to go ahead and fill the homepage up with all my favorite stories from the past year, and I'm going to put up one last lyric posting. The lyrics are to honor my beloved 16-year-old cat who passed away last week of kidney failure. His name was Zach (a.k.a. Pookie), and since he was much loved by all who met him (including our lyrics compiler and site photographer, Julie Schuchard), we decided to remember his fluffy greyness here.

I'd also like to take this moment to remind you to please, please, please call your House Representative(s) and Senators and ask them to support the Internet Radio Equality Act, known as H.R. 2060 in the House, and S. 1353 in the Senate. The future of indie rock depends on this bill being passed! More information is available at SaveNetRadio.org, as well as my last blog.

I guess that's about it. Thank you for coming, and thank you for reading our stories and articles. We're not going to be taking the site down for a long time, so feel free to come back and re-read any of your favorite old stories.

Good luck out there. We'll miss you!

i don't know exactly your reasons for shutting down the site but thanks for putting in the effort anyway, there's some very useful information for budding musicians on these pages
